Stockholm, 26 November 2024 – Prime Minister Kristen Michal will participate in the summit of Baltic-Nordic heads of government starting tomorrow in Sweden to discuss the security situation in the Baltic Sea region and Ukraine as well as transatlantic relations. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has also been invited to the summit.
“Tight cooperation with our closest neighbours based on common values is extremely important in the current security situation,” the prime minister stressed. “Our region is already one of the main supporters of Ukraine and promoters of increased defence spending. Nevertheless, we are ready to work even harder together to ensure the security and safety of our people.”
According to Michal, in the context of Russia’s hybrid war, the protection of shared critical infrastructure is also an important area of cooperation. “Russia is not slowing down its subversive activities in our societies, which is why effective countermeasures must be sought. Among other things, we need to jointly strengthen our deterrence and surveillance capabilities in the Baltic Sea,” he added.
The summit of Baltic and Nordic heads of government is held in Harpsund, the official residence of Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. A joint press conference of the prime ministers is also scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.
Tonight, Michal will also meet with local large investors in Stockholm to give them an overview of his government’s activities and priorities in boosting the business environment in Estonia.
