On 5 February 1921, the Kingdom of Sweden granted de jure recognition to the Republic of Estonia, laying the foundation for official diplomatic relations between our two countries.
Relations between Estonia and Sweden have developed into an active and friendly partnership. Our cooperation spans a wide range of areas – from politics and security to the economy, culture and people-to-people ties. We share common values of democracy, the rule of law and international cooperation. We are strong supporters of Ukraine and place great value on innovation and digitalisation.
Together with Sweden, we share a similar understanding of the risks, opportunities and necessary next steps affecting our region. We know that together we are stronger. Estonia’s vital interests are and will remain in our immediate neighbourhood, the Baltic Sea area, and relations with Sweden and other countries of the region are becoming increasingly important over time.
