On March 23, Sweden’s Minister of Defence, Pål Jonson, visited Estonia.
Minister Jonson met with Estonia’s Minister of Defence, Hanno Pevkur, and participated in the security conference “Freedom. Security. Future.”
During the bilateral meeting of the defence ministers, the main focus was on the changed security situation in the Baltic Sea region. The ministers emphasized that the maritime corridor between Estonia and Sweden is a strategic lifeline, critically important for both Estonia’s military supply and the overall resilience of the state. “The security of the Baltic Sea is our shared and indivisible responsibility, and Sweden’s accession to NATO has made the defence of our region more comprehensive and stronger,” said Minister of Defence Pevkur.
Sweden’s Minister of Defence, Pål Jonson, was also awarded the Estonian Ministry of Defence Cross of Merit, Class III, by the Estonian Minister of Defence for outstanding contributions to advancing defence cooperation between the two countries.
