Today, 27 August, President Alar Karis handed over the letters of credence to Estonia’s new Ambassador to Sweden, Margus Laidre.
“Our ties with Sweden are historic and strong – Sweden is our close neighbour, a cooperation partner in the European Union, and a strong ally in NATO. Our joint efforts within the framework of Nordic-Baltic cooperation are also becoming increasingly important,” said President Karis.
“We noted that alongside effective security and economic cooperation, so-called ‘soft security’ issues – namely cooperation in science, education, and culture – are also of great importance. In promoting these areas, there are still many untapped opportunities in Estonian-Swedish relations.”
